Water Damages

Water that leaks from a toilet does not always flow straight down. The leak may cause the water to slowly run along a water pipe or other surfaces in the subfloor and into the room below. The leak may occur for several feet and over a lengthy period of time before signs of water damage are actually visible.

A leaking toilet base can cause water damage in the subfloor which then leads to warping and weakening of the floor joists around the toilet. This may also cause the floor around the toilet to bow or flex when you walk on it. Removing the old floor joists and installing new joists may require you to rip out the bathroom floor as well as the ceiling below.

Water leaks at the toilet base can damage the bathroom flooring, subfloor and possibly the ceilings below the toilet. It also creates an unhealthy situation in your bathroom.

Toilets use nearly 27% of water in the average home and are the most common place that water leaks occur. There are many different causes for a toilet to leak at the base.
